“Beetlejuice 2” is one of the sequels that has been in development hell for years, so it’s probably best not to get our hopes too high until it officially goes into production. Co-writer Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) once said they were craving a production start date. until the end of 2015. Things weren’t looking so good in 2016 and Michael Keaton said a sequel was coming. probably wouldn’t. But last year, “Beetlejuice 2” entered a new phase. Early development at Plan B Entertainmentand the involvement of a popular teen star like Jenna Ortega may be just what this sequel needs to finally make it happen.
The original “Beetlejuice” introduced moviegoers in 1988 to Maitlands, Adam and Barbara (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis). house. Keaton and Tim Burton would go on to do “Batman” together the following year, reuniting for the sequel “Batman Returns” in 1992 and Disney’s live-action “Dumbo” remake in 2019.
Ortega’s star is on the rise with his roles in recent horror movies like “X” and “Scream.” He’ll be back with the sequel “Scream VI” this weekend, and if we’re lucky, we’ll see Keaton face off with what he calls “the most ghosts” in “Beetlejuice 2,” perhaps the film’s 35th anniversary next year.
