what would happen “Godzilla Minus One, Part Two” be about? Given that “Godzilla Minus One” is more character-driven than most of the previous “Godzilla” films, Yamazaki said he wants to continue down that path. Gorumaru said the following in his interview transferred from his Twitter account:
“To be honest, I would like to see the continuation of the story of these people. If I could, I would like to make a movie about what will happen to them from now on.”
“Godzilla Minus One” focuses on a kamikaze pilot (Ryunosuke Kamiki) whose life is turned upside down due to his perceived cowardice (he failed to sacrifice himself for the war effort) and how Godzilla stands as a symbol of his failure. It looks like Yamazaki will want to continue his own story, not Godzilla’s. Yamazaki also hinted throughout the film’s release schedule that he made “Minus One” to leave the door open for sequels. For Japanese newspaper AeraYamazaki said:
“I think it would be more cinematic if it didn’t end neatly and neatly. This is not only so that a sequel can be made, but also to keep the characters alive in the hearts of the audience.”
Yamazaki was also quoted at the “Godzilla Minus One” premiere (Sankei Sports reported.) “I wonder if you would let me take another photo?” He was hinting that he wanted to make another Godzilla. But this seems like an empty request, not a declaration of intent.
Mono Magazine December 2023 issueYamazaki theorized what kinds of stories he might be willing to explore with “Minus One, Part Two.”
