The story goes that he took a break from overseeing the foreign audio mix and grabbed a bite to eat at Hamburger Hamlet, the iconic Hollywood restaurant located across Hollywood Blvd from The Chinese Theatre. Unfortunately it’s not there anymore but it was an institution for decades and while eating Lucas noticed something a little odd through the window.
“There was a huge line on the block where the Chinese Theater is located. ‘What is this?’ “I totally forgot about it and I couldn’t really believe it.”
The masses immediately flocked to “Star Wars”, which was a big surprise for Lucas. I can’t imagine being that guy at that point in her life when she welcomed her baby into the world instantly and to great acclaim, especially if you consider that fair How sad Lucas was at that moment.
But they showed what they did. “Star Wars” was an instant success and it all started that weekend.
Another fun fact about this weekend: Playboy’s Hugh Hefner was also in attendance. He took many of his models to see the film and was one of the film’s first and most vocal fans. In another example of symmetry, years later Supreme Leader Snoke in the movie “The Force Awakens” would model his robes and other features on Hefner.
As Lucas might say, it’s like poetry. Rhymed.
