So who was Skarsgård supposed to play? According to director Chad Stahelski, the character isn’t even in the last movie. “There was one I thought, it was an old script with a character we no longer have, uh, I was just thinking he’d pick it. It was a bit of an action role,” Stahelski said. EW.
“My ex-partner Dave Leitch called Bill atomic blonde and in the process i met him and i really liked him and i loved his job. I always [saw him in a film]I’m amazed at how she can transform her body and say so much with non-verbal acting. I thought it was fascinating and it fits our world. I called Bill and said, ‘Hey, I’m doing something else. John Wick, maybe there’s a section in it for you, if we send you the rough script and see if there’s anything you like.’ I didn’t say anything about which role.”
The role that Skarsgård liked turned out to be the main villain of the movie. As Stahelski said:
“He called me back and said, ‘I would love to play the Marquis.’ “No Bill, he’s the bad guy. You don’t want the bad guy.” “No, no, it’s a fun role! This delicious role!” I said, ‘Oh, now!’ I’m like.”
Fortunately, Stahelski gave Skarsgård the role of Marquis, and the actor managed to create one of the most memorable John Wick villains in the process.
